Your privacy is very important to us, that's why your GPS for your runs is never sent to us or any other third party service providers. All your data is stored locally onto your device. This means if you uninstall the app all of your data will be automatically deleted. You have complete control over this data and it never leaves your phone.
However, we do collect some telemetry data and our app makes use of Third Party Services which also gather their own data. Although, none of this data is personally identifiable and you have the right to switch most of it off in the settings page.
Third Party Service providers
The app does use third party services that may collect information used to identify you.
These third party service providers used are as followed by the app:
- Google Play Services
- Google Maps Additional Terms of Service
- Microsoft App Center Analytics and Crash Logs
Summary of Android Permissions Required
- Internet - This is used for Google Maps, Google Play Services and Microsoft App Center. Please see the Third Party Service agreements above for more information.
- Fine Location - The app requires your exact location to be able to accurately record your runs. Please see "Location Data" below for more information.
- Foreground Service - The app can run in the background, to record your run with the screen off. Please see "Background Activity" for more information.
Telemetry Log Data
Like many programs we gather telemetry data to try and improve our program. We collect two main types of telemetry data, this includes device information & program usage and also crash logs & error rates. None of the data we collect is personal, so it can not be used to personally identify you. However, you can always choose to opt out of all or some of the telemetry if you wish via the App settings.
All data is retained for 90 days after which point it is automatically deleted.
Device Information & Program Usage
The device information we collect includes, total number of app users each day, average time spent on the app, type of device used, operating system, country of origin, language and what version of the app people are using. As previously aforementioned all data is non-personal and anonymised.
Crash Logs & Error Rates
In addition we collect crash data, this includes how often people are crashing, what part of the program crashed and what the user was doing when it crashed. We also collect error rates, recording every time an error message is displayed and why. This data can be very useful in fixing bugs and issues in the program which we may have not detected. Allowing us to build a more reliable and stable program for future updates.
There are two types of location data collected, your exact location and your general location. Your exact location is the longitude and latitudinal position of your device, to a 2m accuracy. Your general location is the country or region in which your device is. For example, England.
Your exact location is used by the App to be able to work out where you currently are and record your run. Google Maps and the app has access to information. But this information is never transmitted or stored anywhere outside of your device. Your exact GPS position is saved directly onto your phones internal storage.
Your general location is sent to us and stored securely in Microsoft App Center. But this data is not associated with any other information about you, so remains anonymous. For more information please see the telemetry gathering policy above.
The app can run in the background to record your run without you having to be actively using the app or requiring your screen to be constantly on. But it cannot run in the background unless explicitly started by the user. When running in the background a notification will be displayed in your notification tray. This notification cannot be dismissed for the duration of the background activity. To stop running in the background you can either close the app or press "Stop Run" in the notification.
Any data that is stored locally on to your device, such as your run GPS and cache data, is your responsibility to ensure its secure. We cannot be held responsible or liable for this data. We would strongly recommend applying a strong password to your device, keeping your device up to date and only downloading files from trusted sources to ensure it's security.
Cookies are files with a small amount of data that are commonly used as anonymous unique identifiers. These are sent to your browser from the websites that you visit and are stored on your device's internal memory.
This App does not use these "cookies" explicitly. However, the app may use third party code and libraries that use "cookies" to collect information and improve their services. You have the option to either accept or refuse these cookies and know when a cookie is being sent to your device. If you choose to refuse our cookies, you may not be able to use some portions of this App.
